Egg Donation Process

Step One: Screening

Egg Donors and Recipients are each evaluated to ensure their appropriateness for this specialized therapy.

Donors are invited to a Donor Orientation session to give them an understanding of the entire egg donation process. Our team will interview them and review their personal and family medical history, and perform comprehensive physical exam. Once qualified, they enter the Donor pool.

Recipients are evaluated for suitability by an assessment of ovarian reserve, cervical and uterine anatomy, and semen quality. Once confirmed to be appropriate, they enter the egg recipient pool.

Step Two: Matching

Our team will try to match donors to recipients according to the preferences of each. This can take weeks to months, depending on the characteristics of donors in the pool and the requests of the recipients.

Step Three: Synchronization

Based on the menstrual cycle characteristics of the donor and recipient, our team will devise a plan so that the donor's eggs will be ready for replacement into the recipient's uterus. Birth control pills are often used to help achieve this synchronization.

Step Four: Stimulation, Retrieval, and Transfer

The donor will be given medications over a 2 week interval to stimulate a number of eggs to grow to maturity. These eggs will then be retrieved and donated to the recipient couple. This ends the process for the donor. The recipient will be on natural hormones to prepare her uterus while the donor's ovaries are being stimulated. Three days after the eggs are retrieved, a limited number (usually 2) will be transferred into the uterus. The remaining good-quality embryos are frozen.

The egg donation process, from application to egg retrieval, usually takes about 3 months to complete. It can take longer if a suitable recipient couple, is not ready. The initial screening can be arranged to accommodate your schedule. However, during the stimulation phase (Step Four), you will need to clear your schedule to permit morning office visits every one to four days according to the monitoring needs of your cycle.

We currently permit up to 5 egg donation cycles per donor, providing that the results of the initial attempt are reassuring. Upon completion of a cycle, you will receive $6,000 compensation for your time and effort. You will also receive the satisfaction of knowing that your generous gift may have helped another couple achieve their dream of having a baby.image spacer for egg donation recipient page
